This is our first time going to the Phillips Farm open house, and we had a wonderful time! Our adventure began with the long hike from our parking spot down to the farm. Megan had fun skipping down the gravel road and about halfway there she said, "Up...Mommy...shoulders." So off we went with Megan perched upon my shoulders looking down over the world! We started out at the WSU birds of prey booth. There was a quite crowd listening to the information from the handlers, when Megan announced as loud as she could and full of excitement, "AN OWL!!!" I replied, "Yes Megan, an owl, but we must be quiet so we don't frighten him." She was quite good after that and enjoyed seeing the large birds. We continued on to a few wildlife booths where she got to pet several pelts and hold various antlers and horns. She kept looking at the faces of the pelts. I wonder what she was thinking. We continued down the trail, at nothing less than full speed, and found the leaf coloring. She was a bit overwhelmed with that concept so we continued on to the elk information booth. She was petrified of the costumed human and we quickly moved on. We then tried some huckleberry jam and dandelion tea and headed back up to the main open house area. We enjoyed watching the cider pressing and Megan had a flower painted on her cheek. We waited quite a long time for the hay ride and while waiting found Teresa and Mike. We quickly gave up on the hay ride and headed back to the face painting so Genoa (Teresa's daughter) could paint Megan's face. We stayed there for a while, petted various dogs and Megan played in the dirt, a favorite pass time of my child. She was getting very tired so we headed back to the car, however this time she didn't want to walk at all, of course, since it was all hiking up hill through grassy fields. By the time we got to the car we were both worn out and ready for an afternoon nap!
