The World According to Me

January February March April May June

Monday January 31, 2005

Today I rode into town with Mom and the Navy pup. Navy had a vet appointment so that he can fly to St. Louis on Saturday. Mom is really happy that she has found good homes for all of the puppies. I am just glad we are keeping Tater. I know life will be a lot easier for mom when she is down to 4 dogs. I think I like Trigger best of the dogs because he likes to sit with me on the couch. Cosby also likes to sniff me and lick me when mom lets him. Maizey just worries when I cry, but most of the time she is just looking for food. I have gotten a few fly-by kisses from tater when she has been upstairs. I will be glad when Spud goes home so that Tater can move upstairs permanently!

Sunday January 30, 2005

Today Dad’s friend/room mate from college and his wife stopped by to meet me. Mom and Dad were really happy to see their friends, and I was happy to meet them. I slept most of the time that there were here, but that is typical for me! Dad worked in the basement in the afternoon and I took a nap with mom. It isn’t often that Mom takes a nap, so it was nice!

Mom finally got tired of me staying up late, so she put me in my bassinet tonight as opposed to holding me until I fell asleep. I laid there for a long time, but finally did go to sleep. Mom and Dad were so relieved. I hardly cried at all, only when I lost my pacifier. I only woke up twice to eat, once at 2 and once at 4:30. Mom really appreciated getting so much sleep!!!

Saturday January 29, 2005

Today Mom, Dad, Paula, Shasta and I went out with the bloodhounds and worked on trailing. It was so fun. I rode in the snuglie with Dad and Mom and Paula worked the dogs. My dogs did really good, especially Maizey. Once I am big enough, Mom said she would let me play hide and seek with the dogs. They will be really good at it by then! Plus, if I ever get lost, I know that they will come find me!

Friday January 28, 2005

I am three weeks old today. Mom can’t believe that I have already been here for 3 weeks. She often says that she doesn’t miss being pregnant! She definitely likes this being a mom thing a LOT better than the being pregnant thing!

Thursday January 27, 2005

Today Mom took a bunch of pictures of me for different family and friends. It was fun having a little photo shoot! She also took a bunch of pictures of the dogs…though I think I am much more photogenic!

Wednesday January 26, 2005

Mom gave me another bath today. She has been waiting for my umbilical cord to fall off so I could have a real bath, but I was getting pretty funky in the mean time, so she went ahead and gave me another sponge bath. Funny thing is that my umbilical cord fell off this afternoon! So my next bath will be a “real” one! Mom also weighed me today and I was 8lbs 6.0oz! I am growing like a weed!!!

Tuesday January 25, 2005

Mom and I went grocery shopping today. I think Mom was surprised how hard it was to shop with me. She put me in the Snuglie and carried me in the store. She got frustrated when people were impatient, but she just kept going and I just kept sleeping. I was a very good girl, I never cried or made a peep!

Monday January 24, 2005

Mom and I went in to Mom’s work today. I got to see the people she works with and my aunt Gina. It was a fun field trip. We stopped in to check on Dad’s work at the coffee shop. Things are coming around well for him there. It is a big remodel and a lot of work!

I have been very hungry lately, eating almost hourly! It drives mom nuts, but she understands that it is her job to make sure I am fed! She has started hauling me around to do chores. I just hang out in the snuglie and she scoops the yards and does things in the house. It works out well.

I was up almost all night wanting to eat every hour. I must be growing. I know Mom and I are going to be very tired tomorrow!

Sunday January 23, 2005

Granny and Grandpa left today. Mom and Dad decided it would be a good day to take it easy. They watched 2 movies and we went on a walk out in our pasture with the big dogs. I had a really good time in my Snuglie… I was a bit fussy all day, and that continued through the night. Mom was afraid it was something she ate, but could not come up with anytime that would have bothered me all day and night. Maybe I was just having growing pains!

Saturday January 22, 2005

Mom and Granny took me into town again today to have my baby announcements made. I was very good going into town. I just slept the whole time. I really like my car seat…even though it seems uncomfortable at first, I always fall right to sleep when I am in it!

Grandpa and Dad worked in the basement today. They got the bathroom mud and taped and tile down in the bathroom and hallway! I am excited for the downstairs remodel to be done so that life will be easier for Mom and Dad.

We went out to dinner tonight. I was (yet again) a good girl, and slept the entire time. Mom and Dad really appreciate me letting them go to dinner and go out and about without it being a big ordeal!

This was my last night with Granny. I have been staying up late with her, usually until about 11:30. It is fun and she talks to me a lot. I also like it when she changes my diaper because she always kisses my feet and hands.

Friday January 21, 2005

I had my first doctors appointment today. Well, my first since I have been home. They weighed me and I am still 7lbs 15.0ounces. I have grown to 21 inches long. I was REALLY good for my appointment up until the point that they had to prick my heel and squeeze blood out for a metabolic test. I cried harder than I have ever cried before. I had a few big tears…the first I have had. Mom and Dad did pretty well. It was hard for them, but Mom said it wasn’t as hard as seeing her puppy get his tail docked. I see how I rate! I guess I understand, he was only a couple of days old and they cut off the tip of his tail! That has to be worse!

I was exhausted from my appointment and slept most of the rest of the afternoon. Dad worked really late, so I barely got to see him before it was bed time. I slept well…again. Mom really appreciates that!

Thursday January 20, 2005

I went with my mom and Granny into town today. We ran a bunch of errands including stopping in to see Daddy at his job site. He is working on remodeling a building for a new coffee shop. It is really neat and someone painted my name in HUGE letters on the wall! Granny got me a new CD player so that I can listen to music at night. She is hoping it will help me sleep better. It is really cute…and Purple! I hope it helps me sleep better!

Dad and Granny made spritz cookies tonight. I can’t wait until I can eat them. My mom LOVES them and eats more than her fair share!

Wednesday January 19, 2005

Today I spent the day at home with Mom and Granny. Dad was home for part of the morning, recovering from the “hard night.” I really love spending time with my Granny, she talks to me a lot and loves to change my diaper (my mom loves that part)! No new milestones today, just spending time at home trying to get onto a new schedule again!

Tuesday January 18, 2005

Granny and Granpa John are on their way today. I am looking forward to seeing them, I haven’t seen them since the day I went home from the hospital. They had a tough time getting here because there was avalanche control on the pass so it is closed until noon. They did finally make it. They couldn’t believe how much I had changed in the week that they were gone.

Mom gave me a bath today and weighed me. I weighed in at 7lbs 15.0oz! I am a whopper! Well, maybe not, but I am growing well. My mom is really pleased. She worries a lot because she has a small appetite and worries she is not eating enough for me. I know she is trying hard.

Dad worked today, and by the time he got home, finished his chores and took a shower, Granny and Grandpa were here, so I did not get to spend much time with him. I really missed spending time with him, so I decided to keep him up half of the night. Mom and Dad were actually quite optimistic that they had “licked” my backwards problem when I was awake from 5PM pretty much until 9PM, but after going to bed at 10PM, I was wide awake by 11PM. Mom got up with me and tried everything she could think to help me settle down. She though I had a tummy ache and after a few hours trying to settle me down, she had Dad call the hospital and they had her give me some gas drops. I went right to sleep (not sure if I had exhausted myself or if it was the drops). Maybe that has been the problem all along! Mom tries hard to eat right and avoid all the things that might upset my tummy. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Monday January 17, 2005

Today was a holiday so my Dad got to be home with me. Well kinda. He worked for a little while in the morning. He got a late start because he is now relying on me to be his alarm clock and I slept in until 8AM. That is after being up almost all night. That was probably my hardest night so far! It can only get better from there!

This was Mom’s first day with me without any help. I think she did a great job (If I do say so myself). She is trying to balance me, three puppies, and her big dogs. It is a tough job! She does have a hard time trying to figure out what to do with me when she needs to go downstairs and let the pups out. She won’t let me be alone with the big dogs even though I know they would NEVER hurt me.

Dad stayed up with me until 1AM tonight and then I decided to give my parents a break and I slept all the way until 4AM! Mom fed me and I slept again until 7AM! It was a nice relief for Mom, she gets really tired when I am up all night!

Sunday January 16, 2005

Today is Daddy’s 28th birthday. I got him a few presents (my favorite was a book for him to read to me) and a card. Dad was very impressed with my ability to write…we won’t tell him that Mom wrote it for me! Gramma and Grandpa Stuart left today. I know my mom really appreciated their help during our first week at home, and will miss them being gone. I will miss them too, and hope they come back to visit soon!

Mom and Dad took it easy today. They watched a movie and just relaxed. I was very cooperative, that is until they decided that they wanted to go to bed. Then I decided to be fussy! This is becoming a pretty common occurrence, and Dad is convinced that I am a backwards baby…awake at night and sleeping during the day. They are going to try a few things they read and have been told to try and get this “under control.” We shall see. I kinda like being a night owl! Mom tries everything to keep my awake before bed time. She even had the dogs sing to me (and let me tell you that is loud), but alas, I am my father’s daughter and slept through the entire event!

Saturday January 15, 2005

Today was another busy day. Boy I am a busy girl! My Grandpa came to town today and then I went with Mom, Dad, Gramma, and Grandpa to lunch with my Great Aunt Lois and Great Uncle Paul. We went to Applebee’s. I didn’t like being in my car seat so I got passed around the table until lunch came. Dad kept me content while Mom ate and then Mom held me through the rest of the meal.

This evening I watched my first dog show on TV. I saw a Bloodhound win the Hound group! I can’t wait to go to my first show in March! I just love my dogs!

Friday January 14, 2005

Today Mommy, Gramma and I spent the day out and about. We went shopping for Daddy’s birthday presents and to get a few things for me (of course). I was really good when we were shopping. Gramma carries me around in my car seat and Mommy carries the diaper bag. I sleep, pretty much, all the time we are out. Mom has realized that having me with her makes everything take longer! A few quick errands turn into an entire day out. She had to stop in the middle of everything so I could eat and then again to be changed. Leaving the house is also a chore, making sure I have everything I need, etc. Life is definitely different for my mom!

Mom and Dad gave me another bath tonight, and I think I might have decided that I like it. I don’t like the washing part so much, but I loved having my hair washed. That is the part that Daddy does, and I was very content! I am one week old today and so at bath time (while I was in my birthday suit) Mom weighed me. I weigh 7lbs 9.5oz, 1.5oz more than at birth! I am a growing girl!!!

I had a harder night last night. I couldn’t fall asleep for anything. I went to bed with Mom at 10, but at 11:30 she finally gave up and took me to Dad to watch TV and be rocked. Finally Dad got me to sleep at 12:30AM and brought me to bed, but I woke up within a few minutes. Mom fed me and then I finally fell asleep. I woke up at 5AM for another meal, but went right back to sleep. Mom and Dad got to sleep in until 7AM!!!

Thursday January 13, 2005

Today was a pretty quiet day. Mom worked on writing thank you notes to all the people who got gifts for me. She is almost finished. Gramma worked on my nursery because I have too many things already! We got my new dresser all filled up with my clothes and bedding. I spent the day hanging out with Mom while she wrote. I sat in my favorite spot…my vibrating bouncing chair. I just love that thing!

My Uncle David came over for dinner tonight. I was a bit fussy during dinner, but I was just hungry too! I love spending time with Uncle David, he likes to hold me and I like napping on his chest. I have not had a nap with Dad tonight because he is busy in the kitchen making cookies. I can’t wait until I get to eat them someday!!! Mom says that Dad is a really good cook, Mmmm, I just can’t wait!

I did spit up on Dad’s shirt for the first time today. Mom took a picture, and it was really funny! They take pictures of everything!

I had a great night tonight. I only woke up two times, once at 1AM and then again at 4AM. I wasn’t able to fall back to sleep after my 4AM feeding so mom rocked me for a while and finally just held me and I felt better. For the first time since I have been home my Dad had to wake up to the alarm clock instead of me announcing that it was “MORNING AND I’M HUNGRY.”

Wednesday January 12, 2005

Today was another busy day. I went with Mom and Dad to Mom’s Doctor’s appointment. The doctor said that she is doing well. Then Mom, Dad, Gramma and I headed down to Lewiston so I could meet my Great Aunt Lois and Great Uncle Paul. I loved meeting them. I slept most of the way down (I am great in the car) and then was wide awake with Paul and Lois. I was so happy to meet them and can’t wait to go see them again.

I was very tired from all the excitement today so I slept most of the evening. I was so happy when Dad got home from work and I took a nap with him and Trigger on the couch. I had a very good night. I went to bed with Mom and Dad (in my bassinet) at 10 and got up at 11:30 to eat. Then I slept until 3:30AM ate for almost AN HOUR, then slept until 7:00AM. That has to be some kind of record for a 5 day old infant!

Tuesday January 11, 2005

We decided to spend the day at home today. Mom is still tired and sore from our busy day yesterday. Mom spent about half the day working on stuff for her work (she worries about them a lot…rumor is she just worries a lot) I got to try my vibrating bouncer chair, and I love it.

I always look forward to Daddy coming home from work. Once he is home he holds me all the time. We like to take naps together. Mom takes lots of pictures of us sleeping on the couch.

Mom and Dad gave me my first bath at home today. Mom wiped me down with a soft cloth with warm water and Dad washed my hair in the sink. I didn’t like it very much, but I feel much better now that I am clean. I do have little bit of a diaper rash, but Mom and Gramma are working hard to make it better. It feels good when they put the special cream on it.

I had a tough night. I slept really well until 2AM. I got up to eat and then was really fussy. Mom got up and walked me around the house and patted my back. Then Cosby decided to throw up, so there was a lot of commotion. Once Mom got that cleaned up she took me out and rocked me in her chair. I still wouldn’t settle down. Then the power went out. It scared mom because there was a loud noise. It was REALLY dark in the house so Dad and Gramma got up to help light candles and call the power company. Finally the power came back on, but I was still really fussy. Even the puppies were upset and Gramma had to go let them out at 4AM. Gramma took me from Mom so that she could sleep and held me until 5AM when I finally settled down. She put me to bed with Mom and Dad, and then I woke up at 5:30 to eat. Then Maizey decided to throw up. It was a tough night!

Monday January 10, 2005

I was very sad when Dad left for work this morning. I really miss being with him all day. Mom kept me busy today. She and Gramma took me to meet up with Dad for my Post-Op appt. I weighed 7lbs 3.0oz and checked out A-OK. Then Gramma and Mom took me to Mom’s work so I could see Aunt Gina and all the people that she works with. Mom had to get some stuff so she could do some things at home (we all know she just can’t leave things well enough alone…she is a bit of a control freak. I hear she gets that from my Grandpa Stuart). We then went on my first shopping trip. We went to Wal-Mart to get a few things and Gottschalk’s to get some more clothes. I have a lot of clothes but only 2 outfits that fit me right now. Mom and I napped in the car while Gramma went to Winco. Mom was really tired and very sore; I think she did too much that day. Auntie Gina came over for dinner and got to hear me really cry for the first time. Mom went to bed early. Dad spent the evening working on sewing me a changing table pad because the one we have was not the right shape. I love the pad he made me; it is very soft and very “cushy.”

Sunday January 9, 2005

Mom and Dad were both very tired from the long night, so after we got up at 6AM, Mom went back to bed for a few hours (until I decided I was hungry again). We spent the day relaxing. My Grandpa Stuart left in the morning and my mom’s friend Val came by to meet me in the afternoon. Gramma was busy helping with (doing) all of the chores around the house including feeding my puppies, doing ALL the laundry, and running errands! She is such a big help to Mom.

Sunday night I was getting very used to my new routine. Mom went to bed at 9:00PM and Dad and I hung out until 11. Mom got up to feed me and then I slept soundly in my bassinet for a couple of hours. I did that all night, so Mom finally got some sleep back!

Saturday January 8, 2005

My second (and last) day in the hospital… My Daddy had to leave briefly to take our puppies to the vet, and otherwise, we spent the day getting ready to go. The nurses and doctors wanted to be sure that me and Mommy were both healthy before we left. I was being stubborn and didn’t want to go to the bathroom so we all had to stay until later in the afternoon. Finally I did my “duty” and we got to leave around 3:00PM. On my exit exam I weighed 7lbs 1.0oz. Our visitors that day included: Gramma, Grandpa Stuart, Granny, Grandpa John, Auntie Gina, Nancy Yorinks, Brian Thompson, and John Scripter.

Mom and Dad dressed me in my own clothes (which were all too big) and put me into my new car seat and off we went. I slept all the way home and was a very good girl. I hear that I will spend a lot of time in the car on road trips, so I guess this is a good thing. It was so nice to be home. I got to meet my new “brothers and sister.” Maizey was always very worried when I cried. Cosby was frightened of me, sniffed me, and then ran away. Trigger thought it was neat that I made such funny noises. I spent the rest of the day resting in the arms of my Mom, Dad, Grandpa Stuart, and Gramma. Luckily my Gramma is staying all week to help my mom. My mom is very sore and tired and could use the help…although she wishes she could do everything all by herself. I hope I am not as stubborn as she is!!! Dad also says she worries too much!!!

Saturday night was tough for me. I really liked sleeping in Daddy’s arms on Friday night, so having to sleep in my bassinet was a “rude awakening.” I was still trying to figure out how the whole nursing thing worked and was up most of the night. Mom and Dad were really worried about doing the “right thing.” They really wanted me to sleep in my bassinet because they are both very hard sleepers and didn’t want to hurt me. Mom would feed me, Dad would change me and then once I fell asleep in their arms, they would put me in my bed. I was pretty stubborn (uh oh) and got mad…they let me fuss and comforted me by rocking the bassinet and rubbing my tummy, but if I really cried they held me again. Finally morning arrived and we all got up to face the next day.

Friday January 7, 2005

Today is the first day of the rest of my life! I was born today at 1:32AM after my mom was in labor for about 3 hours. She started having contractions sometime during the day on Friday, but just thought it was gas. By 7:00PM she had called Gramma to see what real contractions felt like. She and Daddy began timing her contractions and they were about 3 minutes apart. Dad called Granny to see what she thought; they still did not believe I was thinking of arriving 17 days before my due date. Granny said, call Auntie Hillary, she is the expert. Hillary said, better to be safe than sorry…call the hospital (sheez, huh?!). The hospital had Mommy drink 1 liter of water to see if the contractions stopped…they didn’t. She and Dad left at 10:00PM to go to the hospital and arrived at 10:38PM after driving through a snow storm! They checked mom and she was already 6cm dilated…I was well on my way! Luckily my mommy’s doctor was already at the hospital so he came right away. Daddy called everyone again to tell them, it wouldn’t be long…I wasn’t wasting any time!!! Mommy decided to be tough and try to do this without drugs…my guess is that she will opt for the epidural next time! My mom had to get oxygen because my heart rate started to go down, but that helped a lot (mom was hogging all the oxygen). I sure did a number on my mom on my way out, but I was ready…now! Watch out world, here I come! Daddy was there to greet me when I arrived and also cut my umbilical cord. Mommy got to hold me briefly, but then they needed to do some more work on her and needed to get me cleaned up. I weighed 7lbs 8.0ozs at birth and was 20 ½ inches long. My Mommy and Daddy named me Megan Ilene. Megan was a name they both liked, and Mom especially liked that it could be shortened to Meg. Ilene is my Great Grandma Bodeutsch’s first name, although she went by Mickey.

Gramma and Uncle David arrived around 3:00AM, just in time to see Daddy give me my first bath. I then got to move to my new room with Mommy and Daddy. Granny and Grandpa John arrived at about 8:00AM on Friday morning after over 8 hours in the car. There was horrible weather from Seattle all the way to Moscow. They were very happy to see me and think I am just lovely (of course, they are my grandparents). My other visitors on Friday included my “Auntie” Gina, Brandy Sullivan, and my Grandpa Stuart. I was very tired from a hard journey, but was doing well. Mommy and Daddy got to have a “candle light dinner” in their room and then went right to bed. I was a little fussy, so I slept on my Daddy’s chest. I got Mommy up a couple of times so I could eat (I was still trying to figure out that whole process). At 3:00AM Mom, Dad, and I all slept together in the hospital bed until 6:00AM that was my favorite time.
